Program Schedule & Experiences

Each intern may have a unique schedule and complete their rotations in varying orders. The supervised practice experiences of the program include:

 

Orientation - 2 days (16 hours)

Interns will learn about the program, including the mission, goals, objectives,

policies and procedures, assignments, review of clinical concepts, and

program expectations.

Clinical Rotation - 15 weeks (600 hours)

Clinical rotations are designed to provide practical experiences using the Nutrition Care Process including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation. The clinical rotation includes experiences in diabetes, renal, nutrition support, cardiology, GI disorders, wound healing, dysphagia, geriatrics, malnutrition, and critical care. Case studies will be assigned to interns to supplement the supervised practice during this rotation.

Food Service Rotation - 5 weeks (200 hours)

The food service rotation will provide interns with hands-on experiences including menu planning, production and service methods, procurement, inventory, cost-control techniques, and management strategies.

Community Rotation - 5 weeks (200 hours)

Experiences in the community rotation will provide interns with an understanding of the role of the dietitian in the community setting. Experiences will be done through a variety of activities, programs and services including nutrition education and program planning.
